Les Vaughn: NEWS

More Les Vaughn History - February 1, 2012

Les Vaughn can sound just like Johnny Cash. He also sounds much like: Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins, Johnny Horton, and many other artists. Les has been writing, playing and singing his whole life. His sisters, brothers and he sang constantly together, while growing up on a Dairy Farm in Vale, Oregon till age 14
He sang in an Operetta called "Fortune Teller" at age 14.
In Prineville Oregon, 1960, he, and one other from his school, were selected for "All Northwest Accapella Choir" which was held in Portland ,Oregon
In 1961 US Navy Boot Camp in San Diego California, he was to be found, singing "Do Wop" with three black singers. Together as an Accapella Quartet, they sang, as evening entertainment, instead of scrubbing clothes. "Company 12" enjoyed all through boot camp, every evening, their fun music. They ended up capturing the First Place trophy for Nimitz Naval Base Music Competition which was held the 6th week of training.
Les was personally called on the phone, by the President of CCMA, (Gene Higgins), and was asked to sing at the National CCMA Convention in Nashville 2000. The song that took him there "Ambrotose Train" went up the National/International charts, to # 38 in Music Review Magazine 46 Robin Road, Poughkeepsie, New York,12601, which was a publication at that time for over 14 years. CCMA picked up the tab for the rooms and food, for Les and his band for the 4 day convention at the Downtown Sheraton.
Locally, Les has played for and hosted many musical events including last Summer's first annual "Bootstraps and Blue grass festival" held at the Columbia Gorge Hotel in Hood River.
Les is also the person who responsible for starting and hosting the "Monday Night Open Mic Sessions", held at Naked Winery in Hood River, which continue, even though he has moved on, and they have been successful for over three years now.. There's much more to say, but we suggest you just listen and you be the judge.
If you want to look him up, his website is www.lesvaughn.com and he can be found on You Tube just by searching his name..

Personal letter to Nascar - March 20, 2008

Written by Les recently to a friend:

I know more Johnny Cash songs than anyone I know of and they all say I sound just like him. I know that I have a much better Cash sound than most who try. I don't try! I just do! I also have a life that was a lot the same as his. I’ve even performed in a prison not Folsum but Monroe Prison North of Seattle in Washington State.

I sing Willie and Waylon, and also Elvis with a few Merle and George Jones thrown in as well as performing many original songs. I sing lots of artists such as: Josh Turner, Conway Twitty, Buck Owens, and many more artist/legends including Johnny Horton and Chuck Berry.
I am told by many that I perform Johnny Cash music as good as originally performed.

I do write a lot of good music. One of my songs Called "Ambrotose Train" did go up the charts to #38 nationally in 2000. : )

My second closest friend, (Ted Matzen) a music partner, co-writer, friend, of 16 years, travels the world playing music all the time. I mean constantly and consistently. He is sought after and respected by every musician who comes in contact with him. I am proud of him for his accomplishments both as a writer and a first class performer. He and I have performed many Duo's, Three piece, and full band gigs since 1993 in the Columbia River Gorge. We performed at the downtown Sheraton Hotel in Nashville, TN. in year 2000. We also performed in Austin, Texas at Homers and other Popular Venus March of 2007. as well as probably in excess of a hundred or more locally through the years.

Ted has played in Aspen, for New Years eve parties there. He Was in Austin in 2008 again in March playing gigs with Boomer Castleman who performed regularly as a Duo with John Denver years ago, Ted also hangs with the guy who wrote the song "Country Roads" and also Dennis Challman another good friend from Austin. Dale Spaulding (Ray Charles' Harmonica player) is another friend/associate. He is presently (6 weeks) in Mauii, and this week will be performing several gigs there. He currently is performing his latest creation named “HonkyTonkAholic” Which is sure to be a classic Country Western song

By now you are I am sure wondering why I have bothered to write all this to you personally. It is because you are obviously quite a fan of Kevin Harvick, and quite possibly a driver yourself. I apologize for this tactic, but sometimes it's easier to just cut through the chase and ask someone who knows someone for for that special gig.
Would you please tell Kevin for me that I’m a fan and that we want to do a gig this year for a Nascar Event. It’s our goal , so it would be a feather in his Nascar beanie if he were the one to introduce us to some of that circle. We won’t let him down and he will be proud to say that he found us. If you can get us a plane ride, a room and $300 each and we'll be there. That’s the first time rate, and If you need references, between us we can give you some very good ones.

Thanks and good luck

Ted,

Something has just come up on the rally. It looks like the Outdoor Channel is going to be filming this rally for an one hour TV Show. If this is really going to happen, it just would not be a real "Sportsmobile" rally without "the" band.
I will confirm the details of the filming, and what do you think would be the possibility of making an appearance even if we fly you in for one evening. The rally dates are Sunday July 1, Monday July 2 and Tuesday July 3. I do not know what days, or if the filming would be the entire 3 days, but would love to coordinate having you there for a least one evening.

What would a TV Show about a Sportsmobile rally be like without "Pop My Top" , "Brand New Truck", and "Stuck In The Mud"? Let me know your thoughts and if there is anyway you can work this into your schedule.
