More Les Vaughn History - February 1, 2012
Les Vaughn can sound just like Johnny Cash. He also sounds much like: Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins, Johnny Horton, and many other artists. Les has been writing, playing and singing his whole life. His sisters, brothers and he sang constantly together, while growing up on a Dairy Farm in Vale, Oregon till age 14
He sang in an Operetta called "Fortune Teller" at age 14.
In Prineville Oregon, 1960, he, and one other from his school, were selected for "All Northwest Accapella Choir" which was held in Portland ,Oregon
In 1961 US Navy Boot Camp in San Diego California, he was to be found, singing "Do Wop" with three black singers. Together as an Accapella Quartet, they sang, as evening entertainment, instead of scrubbing clothes. "Company 12" enjoyed all through boot camp, every evening, their fun music. They ended up capturing the First Place trophy for Nimitz Naval Base Music Competition which was held the 6th week of training.
Les was personally called on the phone, by the President of CCMA, (Gene Higgins), and was asked to sing at the National CCMA Convention in Nashville 2000. The song that took him there "Ambrotose Train" went up the National/International charts, to # 38 in Music Review Magazine 46 Robin Road, Poughkeepsie, New York,12601, which was a publication at that time for over 14 years. CCMA picked up the tab for the rooms and food, for Les and his band for the 4 day convention at the Downtown Sheraton.
Locally, Les has played for and hosted many musical events including last Summer's first annual "Bootstraps and Blue grass festival" held at the Columbia Gorge Hotel in Hood River.
Les is also the person who responsible for starting and hosting the "Monday Night Open Mic Sessions", held at Naked Winery in Hood River, which continue, even though he has moved on, and they have been successful for over three years now.. There's much more to say, but we suggest you just listen and you be the judge.
If you want to look him up, his website is www.lesvaughn.com and he can be found on You Tube just by searching his name..
