Personal letter to Nascar - March 20, 2008
Written by Les recently to a friend:
I know more Johnny Cash songs than anyone I know of and I can sound just like him. I’m a much better sound alike than anyone out there. Ask my friends!!! I also have a life that was pretty much parallel to his. I’ve even performed in a prison not unlike Johnny. The difference is that it was Monroe Prison North of Seattle in Washington State.
I sing Willie and Waylon, and also Elvis with a few Merle songs thrown in as well as performing many original songs. I sing lots of artists such as: Josh Turner, Conway Twitty, Buck Owens, and many more artist/legends including Johnny Horton and Chuck Berry.
I am told by many that I perform Johnny Cash music better than originally performed and in fact, have been called the original by many fans and close friends. There is nothing better than the original in my estimation and I have great respect, due respect, for my good brother Johnny, who has regretfully passed to the other side. He was my biggest inspiration. We all miss him.
I do write a lot of good music. One of my songs Called "Ambrotose Train" did go up the charts to #38 nationally in 2000. : )
My second closest friend, (Ted Matzen) a music partner, co-writer, friend, of 16 years, travels the world playing music all the time. I mean constantly and consistently. He is sought after and respected by every musician who comes in contact with him. I am proud of him for his accomplishments botgh as a writer and a performer of class. He and I have performed a Duo, Three piece, and full Band performances since 1993 in the Columbia River Gorge. We performed at the downtown Sheraton Hotel in Nashville, TN. in year 2000. We also performed in Austin, Texas at Homers and other Popular Venus March of 2007. as well as probably in excess of a hundred or more locally through the years.
Ted has played in Aspen, every New Years eve for the past Four years. He Was in Austin This year again in early March doing gigs with Boomer Castleman who performed regurlarly as a Duo with John Denver years ago, Ted also hangs out with the guy who wrote the song "Country Roads" and also Dennis Challman another good friend from Austin. Dale Spaulding (Ray Charles' Harmonica player) is another friend/associate. He is presently (6 weeks) inMauii, and this week will be performing 10 different gigs there. He currently is performing his latest creation named “HonkyTonkAholic” Which is sure to be a classic Country Western song
By now you are I am sure wondering why I have bothered to write all this to you personally. It is because you are obviously quite a fan of Kevin Harvick, and quite possibly a driver yourself. I apologize for this tactic, but sometimes it's easier to just cut through the chase and ask someone who knows someone for for that special gig.
Would you please tell Kevin for me that I’m a fan and that we want to do a gig this year for a Nascar Event. It’s our goal , so it would be a feather in his Nascar beanie if he were the one to introduce us to some of that circle. We won’t let him down and he will be proud to say that he found us. If you can get us a plane ride, a room and $300 each and we'll be there. That’s the first time rate, and If you need references, between us we can give you some very good ones.
Thanks and good luck
